CHARACTER
NAME: III (True name: Michael Arclight)
CANON: Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal
CANON POINT: Episode 49, when III slips into his coma after losing his duel against Yuma.
BACKGROUND: Here! Keep in mind that the wiki prefers dub names, so it will refer to III as 'Trey'.
SUITABILITY: III is defined by his love for his family and all consuming desire to see them restored to how they used to be, along with his deeply self sacrificing nature. At his canon point, he's just asked Yuma to save his family where he couldn't and then went home to go slip into a coma.

And now he's in Bottlecap Bay, completely separated from them.

My main goals for III involve him learning to stop being so intensely self sacrificing and making friends outside of his family. Besides his family, III is quite lonely, outright admitting he's never had any friends before Yuma reached out to him, so getting a chance to make more friends will be good for him. Additionally, learning he doesn't have to throw himself into danger for the sake of others/that others can in fact protect themselves without needing a fifteen year old kid to sacrifice himself to keep them safe will likely be quite painful for III (III learns to value his own well being challenge when???), but needed.

On the topic of morality, III is generally kind hearted, but was also willing to follow along with his father's revenge scheme in hopes that things would go back to normal after it's done, so I can see him being willing to do some morally questionable things if he thinks it'll get him closer to going home. He doesn't like hurting others needlessly, but he'll set aside his own comfort and morals for the sake of his goals. (That self sacrificing nature strikes again!)

(Also III's father was invested in investigating alternate dimensions and got trapped in an alien dimension for several years, so that's setting up to be a very fun parallel.)

QUESTIONNAIRE:

Your character is on an exploration quest when they find an injured Pokemon in need of help. This Pokemon appears to be in distress and is quite dangerous, posing a risk to your character even if they mean well, and putting your quest mission at risk. What do they do? What are some possibilities of how they work with teammates to address this, or do they go at it alone?

III's first instinct would be to try to help the injured Pokémon himself, in spite of the danger. What happens next would depend on who he's working with for the quest, but he'd need to be convinced to step back and let others try to help.

Notably, III being a Ralts means he can sense the emotions of others, which means he can tell that the injured Pokémon is in distress and means well. If convinced to do so, he can take a background role of reading the emotions of the injured Pokémon to make sure they aren't actively hostile while the others more actively help, which while not what he'd like to do (if his allies get hurt he's going to be so upset that he couldn't do anything to protect them!), is more realistically helpful than III letting himself become a second injured Pokémon.

If the team decides to just leave the injured Pokémon to focus on the quest, III will also feel quite bad, but will ultimately go with it if the quest is truly more important.

Your character's worst enemy has recently appeared in game, and has joined the guild your character is part of. They both want to tackle the same quest, and your character's enemy suggests that they work together as a team to accomplish this goal. How does your character respond to this?

So. III's worst enemy is Dr. Faker. (Which. I know. That's not even a dub name, that's his original name from the original Japanese version, but getting back on topic-) Dr. Faker was the man who betrayed III's father and caused him to be trapped in an alternate dimension for several years, thus shattering III's family and causing III years of anguish as he desperately hoped for things to go back to normal. Needless to say, III does not like or trust Dr. Faker.

That said, III was never quite down with his father's revenge plan, having only gone with it out of familial loyalty/in hopes his family would go back to normal afterwards. As such, III won't try to attack Dr. Faker on the spot! He won't be friendly either though, and will attempt to grill him on why he did that to his father and why he wants to work with him now. If the grilling goes especially badly, III will likely start ranting at Dr. Faker, spelling out exactly how his father's disappearance ruined his life and broke his family in an attempt to make him feel even a fraction of the pain he's felt over the years.

(Which is a lot. Ouch.)

In the end though, if given no other option III will work with Dr. Faker on the quest, if only because he can't go out on his own. He's just going to be extremely wary and untrusting the whole time he's doing it.

The leader of your character's guild has just approached your character with an offer: they will provide your character with extra supplies, reputation points, and help them with any of their current struggles. In exchange, they ask for your character to do a favor for them that may harm the other guilds, and will not specify what the favor is in advance. It sounds shady, but it's the deal of a lifetime in your character's path to get back home, and refusing it may cause strife for your character within their current guild. What do they think of this offer? What do they ultimately decide to do?

III is very family oriented. He's the kind of person who would do anything for his family, up to and including going along with a revenge plan he doesn't quite agree with. And right now? He's trapped in a strange world, in a body that isn't his, separated from his family.

Needless to say, being forcibly separated from his family is III's personal hell.

On top of that, III is used to acting as a good little revenge pawn fulfilling shady tasks for his revenge driven father, despite his misgivings. A good example of this was when he willingly tricked another person into taking a card from him on his father's orders, despite knowing the card would try to control the person in question. On top of this, his father outright stated that III's forgotten his 'noble heart', due to the fact that III makes little to no effort to push back against his family situation.

As such, if his guild leader approaches him with this type of offer, III will ultimately push aside his discomfort over what he'll have to do in return and take the deal. After all, he's desperate to see his family again, and if he thinks taking a shady deal will help ease his path home? He'll do it, with little to no pushback (even if it hurts him to potentially have to harm the other guilds in return).

Due to shortages on supplies, the city is facing issues deciding where to cut corners during this rough time. Somehow, the responsibility has fallen on your character's shoulders, and they have to make a decision. If they send out an extra team of Pokemon, they will be able to gather more food, and through that, save the lives of dozens of starving Pokemon that were in dire need of nutrition. However, the only Pokemon available to scout for food are those working at the pokeclinic, and sending them out would mean certain death for at least two ill patients. What does your character decide to do? How do they feel about this choice, and how would they deal with the pushback that comes from either side?

Oh Arceus why did you put the teenage Ralts in charge of this-

Okay but seriously. As a Ralts, III has the ability to sense other Pokémon's emotions, and it sounds like there's a lot of emotions flying around in this situation. This, on top of his general empathy and self sacrificing nature, means that when he realizes that he'll have to let at least two sick Pokémon die to send out another scouting party he's going to be overwhelmed by the probable high running emotions and run off to look for more food himself.

He'll justify this under the logic that this way he doesn't have to sacrifice the sick Pokémon and can bring back just that little bit more food, but well. III is ultimately intensely self sacrificing and believes it's fine if he gets hurt scouting for food on his own, so long as those in Bottlecap Bay are fed and alive.

POKEMON: Ralts! My game plan is for III to eventually evolve into Gallade, but with the caveat that he has to go through being a very small, very weak Ralts first. After all, III is intensely self sacrificing to a fault, and I figure the best way to break him of that habit is to put him in a situation where he has to accept help from others and recognize that maybe trying to sacrifice himself isn't as helpful as he thinks it is.

(Also Gallade's built in arm swords and tendency to fiercely defend others nicely call to mind III's own association with swords and protector tendencies. It's just that, again, he has to learn to stop sacrificing himself so much before he's allowed to be a Gallade.)

GUILD OPT-OUT: Cheri Berries. Again, my goal for III is for him to learn to be less self sacrificing, so the guild focused on helping others at your own expense would be counterproductive to that.

Of the remaining two guilds, Lum Berries would make III very happy in that he's a little history nerd who would happily spend days in the Archives learning about this world's history, but the Oran Berries would be interesting in terms of redirecting III's protective nature into other methods such as resource gathering and helping with city defense.
